Experimental Animal Center (EAC)
The Experimental Animal Center (EAC) is the structural unit of the University of Bern carrying the
responsibility for in-vivo research. In its multispecies, decentralized animal facilities, the EAC aims at
providing state of the art housing and veterinary care. The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the “culture
of care” and compliance to guidelines and regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy.
We are seeking for April 1 st, 2021 or by appointment an outstanding and very motivated person as a
Laboratory Animal Veterinarian

Areas of responsibility
Clinical veterinary medicine
Supply veterinary medical care independently: evaluation of clinical cases, provision of
clinical diagnoses and treatment
Careful implementation of preventive medicine programs (routine health monitoring, import,
quarantine, diagnostics) and treatment of diseases
Develop, review and oversight of enrichment program
Participate in veterinary on-call schedule
Compliance
Ensure regulatory compliance with university guidelines and local regulations
Develop, review, and revise clinical-related SOPs
Audit veterinary medical records and other clinically related documents
Serve as a rotating member in internal facility/programmatic evaluations
Scientific support
Advice and support for researchers on clinical issues / animal models
Participate to the internal training to researchers and animal care staff
Requirements
Degree in veterinary medicine eligible to work in Switzerland, Dr. Med. Vet
At least 2 years of working experience in laboratory animal medicine
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Initiative, goal oriented and excellent organizational skills
Fluent in English and German, other languages are a plus
