The Experimental Animal Center (EAC) is the structural unit of the University of Bern carrying the responsibility for in-vivo research. In its multispecies, decentralized animal facilities, the EAC aims at providing state of the art use and care of the animal programs. The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the “culture of care” and compliance to guidelines and regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy.

Laboratory Animal Veterinarian 100%

Areas of responsibility

Breeding facility

  •   Oversight of the breeding of genetically modified mice based on the requirements
  •   Supervision of import and cryobiology processes (revitalisation, freezing, gentic integrity)
  •   Management of the embryo and cryo labClinical veterinary medicine
  •   Supply veterinary medical care independently
  •   Careful implementation of preventive medicine programs (routine health monitoring, import,quarantine, diagnostics)
  •   Participate in veterinary on-call scheduleCompliance
    •   Ensure regulatory compliance with university guidelines and Swiss regulations
    •   Develop, review, and revise clinical-related SOPs
    •   Support with the EAC veterinary pharmacy
    •   Audit veterinary medical records and other clinically related documents
    •   Serve as a rotating member in internal facility/programmatic evaluations
    •   Support with creating datasheet for GM animals and the distress monitoringScientific support
    •   Advice and support for researchers on clinical issues / animal models / breeding strategies
    •   Participate to the internal training to researchers and animal care staff Support researchers onanimal administration database (PyRAT)

Requirements

  •   Degree in veterinary medicine eligible to work in Switzerland
  •   ECLAM / ACLAM board a desired plus
  •   At least 3 years of working experience in laboratory animal medicine
  •   Practical experience in embryo / breeding techniques desired
  •   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  •   Initiative, goal oriented and excellent organizational skills, ambitious, stress resistant
  •   Fluent in English and/or German, other languages are a plusWe offer
